We are excited to announce the featured and contributing artists for Issue 36! We have three great features for you in this issue – and four interviews.
Our first feature is with the Ukrainian printmaker, Yulia Protsyshyn. We started our interview with Yulia a couple of months ago, and Yulia sent us the last of her images and interview questions just days before the invasion of Ukraine. We are happy to say that she is safe. We would like to honor her by asking readers to consider contributing to the Ukrainian cause. Yulia has requested that if readers are so inclined, they might consider contributing to COME BACK ALIVE or any of the organizations on THIS LIST.
Our second feature is on our trip to the Print Austin Expo last February. We had a great time and found two fantastic artists to interview for you. Matthew Magruder is an Austin-based printmaker and photographer and Renee Aless Martinez is a printmaker based in Houston, Texas. Their booths at the Expo really caught our eyes and we just had to share their work with you!
Our third feature is with the LA-based photographer, Katie Shapiro, winner of the inaugural Paula Riff Award, sponsored by Lenscratch and the Center for Photographic Arts.
The cover image is by Austrian printmaker, Sofie Strasser. We found Sofie’s work on Instagram and knew we wanted to share it with you. There are more of Sofie’s fantastic linocuts inside issue 36, too.
We are expecting to release the magazine (and by “release”, we mean “put it in the mail”) by April 10th. Thanks to everyone who submitted. You always make editing really difficult, competitive, and a lot of fun. It’s a great challenge and we appreciate every submission. Remember, that if you submitted, you will get a copy of the magazine whether your work is printed or not. Extra copies for subscribers and pre-order for readers is available HERE.
