Issue 28 Pre-order and Artists Announced!!
We are excited to announce the selected artists and pre-order links for Issue 28. As of now, we still don’t have a “shelter in place” order for our area. If that continues, we should still be able to get the magazine out by mid-April. We are tentatively hoping to release the magazine on April 14th. We will, of course, inform you immediately of any delays. This is indeed the most packed issue we have put out. Counting the artists included in the feature articles, there are over 100 different artists and over 250 images!!
We have two incredible features for you. Our first feature on the Harvey Milk Photo Center includes an interview with San Francisco-based artists, Dave Christensen (director, curator, instructor), Allan Barnes (instructor), and Susanna Lamaina (instructor). HMPC has the largest and longest continually running public darkroom in the US. They have been working to support the photography community for over 75 years. We are honored to have the opportunity to share the work they are doing with you.
Our second feature is an interview with the charming and whip-smart host of everyone’s favorite printmaking podcast, Pine | Copper | Lime. PCL host, Miranda Metcalf has provided a vital touchstone for contemporary printmakers. The guests she has are themselves doing so much to promote print in their communities. We are grateful to PCL guests, Jamaal Barber, Ben Beres, Mehdi Darvishi, Reinaldo Gil Zambrano, Wuon-Gean Ho, Deborah Maris Lader, Ben Muñoz, Tanekeya Word, and Elizabeth Jean Younce, for contributing images to the feature. We hope our readers will dive into PCL and take a look at each of the artists that have been guests there. Miranda and all of her guests doing such inspiring and important things with print. We are so excited to feature their work.
We had hoped to announce the selections for the exhibition at, Through This Lens, at the same time as the magazine selections. However, we are still working on confirming those participants, so we will make a second announcement for that very soon. Again, as of now, we are hoping that the exhibition will run as planned.
We could never have known how important community would be at this time. With the coronavirus threat, bridging communities is more important than ever. And art-making is more important than ever – as a physical and psychological release, as a document, as a way to communicate our thoughts and feelings, as a way to tell our stories, and as a way to understand each other. We sincerely hope that each of you is doing OK. We love you and appreciate you. Please take care. We hope that we can get this magazine to you soon and that it gives you some pleasure and inspiration.
We would also like to remind people that we are always accepting submissions. Even though we just had a CFE due, you can submit at any time. The next deadline is May 31 for the July issue. You can find more information on our SUBMISSIONS PAGE.
